We’ve seen countless Pikachu plushies over the years—after all, Pikachu is one of the most recognizable faces in media. Yet few have felt as authentic as this. Yesterday, Wow! Stuff and RealFX unveiled the Pikachu Puppetronic. As the name implies, it uses a traditional hand-controlled puppet design augmented with a range of electronics to boost movement and expression.
What exactly does that mean for you? Dual-motion ears, blinking eyes, light-up cheeks, and a moving mouth. Sensors are placed across the head, body, and neck so the puppet can respond to touch. On top of that, it offers over 120 sounds and actions, making it one of the closest home experiences to anime Pikachu in real life.
Naturally, quality comes at a price. The first pre-order wave appeared on the Pokémon Center UK site yesterday for £89.99 and sold out almost immediately. While part of the rush was likely due to a limited “First Edition” badge and certificate driving FOMO, it wouldn’t be surprising to see demand linger for a while.
On the flip side, there’s a creepier edge to the product that some may find off-putting.
