Snowfall Confidence Grows for NYC's Weekend Storm | Live Updates

A powerful winter storm is on its way, threatening to bring heavy snow, ice, and travel chaos to a wide area, from the Southwest to the Northeast, including New York City and the Tri-State region. This storm has the potential to be historic, unlike anything seen in recent memory.
The storm will move up from the South, reaching the Tri-State area as early as Sunday morning. New York, in particular, will be on the northern side of a large coastal low, which could result in significant snowfall for the Mid-Atlantic states.
The Tri-State area may experience a moderate to major snowstorm, with a 40% chance of 6 to 12 inches of snow and a 30% chance of a foot or more. The severe cold air accompanying the storm adds to the potential dangers.
However, there are uncertainties, such as the storm's track and the possibility of sleet or dry air, which could affect the final snow totals. The storm is expected to start Sunday morning and continue into early Monday, causing travel disruptions as the workweek begins.
Arctic air will remain after the storm, preventing any significant melting. Government agencies are preparing for a potential major snowstorm, and the Tri-State region will see a brief thaw before the storm hits, with temperatures in the 40s on Thursday, followed by a return to Arctic conditions.
Saturday will be dry and brutally cold, with a high of 19 and a low of 12, and wind chills below zero. This makes it an ideal day for last-minute storm preparations.
