Georgia Homewood, a talented singer-songwriter, is chasing her dreams with a powerful voice and an emotional connection to her music. But here's where it gets controversial: Georgia's music is not just about the technical prowess or the latest trends. She admits to never fully embracing the academic side of music, instead choosing to lean into her creativity and emotions. This unique approach has shaped her sound, influenced by family, classic rock, and a refusal to give up, even when the industry seemed tough.
Her journey began with music in the car, listening to her dad Chris play the guitar, and singing along to classic rock anthems. Growing up in a musical household in Smithills, songwriting came naturally to Georgia, who picked up the guitar at a young age and started writing songs as a teenager.
"I grew up with my dad playing guitar, and I would sing with him in the kitchen or even in the bath as a kid. It was just a natural part of our lives," she recalls.
Georgia's first release, "Not Wanting You," was written when she was just 16. It was a simple recording, just her and her guitar, but it marked the beginning of her professional musical journey.
Things took a turn when she met producer Sean Collins (Merge) while studying music. Together, they created proper recordings in the most unexpected places, using just a Mac computer and a microphone in student accommodation.
Her lyrics are deeply personal, often drawing on heartbreak, healing, and emotional growth. "Coldhearted" explores the emotional distance and self-protection that come after being hurt, but it's also about growth and moving forward.
"With 'Coldhearted,' I wanted to capture that feeling of being cold and guarded after experiencing hurt. It's about not wanting to let someone in again, but also about finding the strength to move on," she explains.
Despite the heavy themes, Georgia's music is ultimately about progress and resilience.
"It's a story of finding your breath again, of moving past the pain and embracing new beginnings," she adds.
The BBC Radio Manchester play was a major achievement for Georgia, and she shared this moment with her entire family, listening together.
"My mum, my brother, and my boyfriend were all there with me. It was an incredible experience to share with the people who have supported me from the beginning," she says.
Georgia's plans for the future are ambitious, and she's not just focused on performing more gigs. She's currently working on an EP, blending her rock roots with modern pop influences inspired by artists like Avril Lavigne, Ariana Grande, Foo Fighters, and Paramore.
"I believe in experimenting and pushing boundaries, even if others want me to stick to one sound. Music is about passion and purpose, not just about making money," she asserts.
As she reflects on her journey so far, Georgia highlights the importance of perseverance.
"I've learned to keep going, to put in the work, and to be proud of myself for doing so. It's been a long road, but I'm determined to keep singing for as long as I live," she says with conviction.
Her dad, Chris, has been by her side every step of the way, and he couldn't be prouder of his daughter's achievements.
"It's been a long journey, and Georgia has worked incredibly hard to get to this point. We're excited to see what the future holds for her," he adds.
